More than 100 countries interested in German vocational training

BIBB President Esser: “GOVET has become a central contact point”

31.03.2015

The dual system of vocational training in Germany continues to attract considerable interest abroad. According to Internet statistics, in the first quarter of 2015 alone the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) registered access by users from 106 countries to the website of GOVET (German Office for International Cooperation in Vocational Education and Training).

„This is a convincing sign that above all Germany’s dual system of vocational training is held in very high regard throughout the world. The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training and GOVET, which has its base here, stand for the quality of German vocational training,” BIBB President Friedrich Hubert Esser emphasised. “Since it was founded one and a half years ago, GOVET has acquired a high profile not only in Germany, but throughout the world. We are delighted that GOVET is being used as a central contact point for people from other countries with an interest in German vocational training.“

User access analysis shows that visitors to the online portal www.govet.international come from all regions of the world. Almost all the countries of Europe, America and Asia are represented. The greatest level of interest comes from Russia, the United States and Brazil. Out of the EU countries, users from Italy and the Netherlands access the site most frequently.

Content wise, the presentations on the dual system and the strategy of the participating federal ministries, which is coordinated at the Round Table for International Vocational Education and Training Cooperation, attract the most interest. The presentations are available in German, English, Spanish, French and Russian, with Italian and Chinese to follow shortly. Foreign visitors also make considerable use of the international vocational education and training cooperation database. This provides a comprehensive overview of projects and other initiatives by German stakeholders in international vocational education and training cooperation.

The data gleaned from analysing Internet access mirror the numerous requests received by GOVET with regard to German vocational training. To date requests from and in connection with 116 countries have been processed. Most requests come from Spain, India, China, Colombia and the United States.

The German Office for international Cooperation in Vocational Education and Training – GOVET at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) was established in late 2013 as part of the Federal Government’s common strategy for international cooperation in vocational education and training from a single source. GOVET serves as the central point of contact in Germany for national and international stakeholders in vocational training cooperation (one stop shop) and as the office for the Round Table for International Vocational Education and Training Cooperation. Furthermore, GOVET provides expert support for the bilateral vocational training cooperation projects of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
